Today’s post is dedicated to our March Brand Of The Month, The Natural Beauty Pot!
We spoke with its founder Shauna about her thoughts on the beauty industry and to find out more about the brand.
What is a typical day at The Natural Beauty Pot HQ like?
No two days are ever the same. Being self employed means you have to be quite adaptable so I could be working on the website, packaging orders, taking photos or manufacturing products. I really enjoy the variation as I am easily bored!
How do you see the beauty industry changing with regards to cruelty free & vegan products? Do you think it could ever be completely cruelty free and vegan?
I think a major issue for many people is discovering a brand you love is owned by a parent company, which owns other brands that do test on animals. But the movement for vegan beauty is ever growing; people are becoming more aware and voting with their money, which is really how global change will come about.
What does cruelty free and vegan mean to you personally?
I am not a crazy animal person but it was never a question of whether testing on animals was acceptable to me or not. Cruelty free was just something I automatically believed in; I think it’s from the values I was brought up with. I only decided to become a vegan brand a few years ago (previously I used beeswax) and it was really the feedback I received from customers with what their needs and wants were.
How long is the process between an idea and the final product?
This varies product to product. I like to play around with formulas, trying them myself primarily then tweaking before passing on to my human testers. There are also different tests which are to be carried out and again, this will vary product to product depending on ingredients. I also like to take the time to make sure the packaging is right for the product and how the customer uses it.
What would be your perfect day?
At the present moment, a holiday anywhere warm. 2018 has been chaotic in both my work and personal life and I feel I most definitely deserve a break!
Who inspires you?
I don’t have a particular person who inspires me but I have great admiration for anyone who is self employed.
What are some of the biggest issues / problems / concerns within the beauty industry at the moment, in your opinion?
In relation to my own business (and I am sure many other small artisan brands), Brexit is my primary concern. It’s already caused multiple price hikes from suppliers. And I am also concerned as to how this will affect my business’ growth.
What is your favourite The Natural Beauty Pot product?
My Beauty Balm comes everywhere; it has so many uses it has a solid balm texture that softens at your touch (I use it on my lips hands and face, and I’m even able to use on my eczema).
What is your favourite non-The Natural Beauty Pot product?
I do love Beauty Cubes, I think they are really innovative take on shampoo!
What is your number one beauty tip?
Your mental wellbeing is just as important as all the lotions and creams in your beauty regime.
